VXD: Tamron's fastest autofocus

The Linear Voice-Coil Extremetorque Drive (VXD) autofocus system controls lens groups more precisely. Without having gears, it moves groups smoothly, quickly and quietly. It is the first motor developed by Tamron with two modules acting in an electronic pulse-driven system ensuring quiet, fast and precise focusing on any subject. It allows better grip on moving subjects (eg sports photo). Discreet, it will also lend itself to many situations requiring both responsive and silent operation.
Record minimum focus: 85 cm

The closest focusing distance is just 0.85m at any focal length. For a telephoto lens it is extraordinarily short. With 180mm, this results in a maximum magnification factor of 1: 4.6, ideal for taking close-up shots full of life. And in manual focus mode you can get shots over even shorter distances like 0.27m to 70mm.
